Citizen Select are Ryan Ulbrich and Matt Van Ostenbridge— D.C. transplants and musical accomplices bonded by beats. Ryan was set on the path of a selector after receiving a set of Technics, a mixer, and a collection of records (by a soon-to-be Buddhist mink, no less). Matt found his way to music production through his rich history in piano.
Their collaborative effort is motivated by the motto that “disco never died; it just grew up;” a mantra makes itself very much apparent in the duo’s sets and sounds. Also apparent is the their affinity for fun in their music. Their tunes generally swing in the nu disco and disco house direction, channeling the revelry of pop glamour and disco cheese; yet never shying away from going deep:

With that, DPC is excited to bring back our guest mix series with this heater of a mix from Citizen Select. If I may so bold as to coin yet another genre, this mix has to fall under day-party disco. Imagine someone capturing the essence of an 85 degree clear sky, mid-day rooftop dance party and setting it to 125 BPM; Citizen Select, through some form of sonic alchemy, have managed to do just that. On sight, the track list alone is enough to warrant a pair of sunglasses; while on listen, there’s an proper helping of effervescent disco/disco-house/nu disco dance floor heaters brought together by deft mixing and thoughtful programming:
