After a bit of a hiatus, the Dance Party Chronicles Guestmix series is back, with our 21st installment.  We are extremely excited to present to you a brand new guestmix from Moonwalk!  Moonwalk is an Italian DJ/producer duo consisting of Mauro Morabello Morabito & Dario Vizioli.

The first time I heard of Moonwalk was about a year and a half ago when I heard their track “Girl for You.”  This track was released on Mexa Records in September 2012 and represented a breakthrough moment for them as producers.  Since that time, Moonwalk has released music on Diynamic, OFF Recordings, ITH(Defected in the House), and Electronique Digital amongst other labels.  They also have forthcoming releases on Nervous Records and Light My Fire Records. Their sound could be generalized as a cross between Nu Disco and the modern version of Deep House.  Their tracks generally have smooth vocals, deep yet funky bass lines, and drum beats with definite dance-ability.

Artwork by Sam CrawfordThis guestmix would fall into a category that I call Dark House.  I say this for two reasons.  First, right from the get go, Reset Robot’s remix of Wade’s “Together is Better” sets a definite deep and dark vibe for the mix.  Second, Dark House is also a play on the phrase “Dark Horse”, which is a little known horse that turns out to be unexpectedly successful in a race.  I use that analogy because a lot of these house tracks may not be very well known, but come together in this mix in quite a pleasing and successful manner.  Many of them feature spoken word samples that range from declaring “Solidarity for Pussy Riot,” to a motivational speaker telling kids they can write their own life story, to a dude talking about how bad music is on the radio these days.

In addition to putting together this great guestmix for our readers, Moonwalk was kind enough to answer some questions for us as well.

DPC: We would like to start off by thanking you guys for doing a guestmix for Dance Party Chronicles and our readers.  Can you tell us a little bit about it?
Moonwalk: We did this mix with some tracks that we have played at our latest gigs. We wanted to give strong vibes to people and we hope that we succeeded at it.

DPC: How did you two pair up and decide to pursue music together?
Moonwalk: We met in High school, and we both shared the passion for electronic music. We started making some sounds at home and having fun doing it, so a little at a time, it became a real job.

11355_334597743312323_830152909_nDPC: What are some advantages and disadvantages to being a duo when it comes to DJing and producing?
Moonwalk: Working together definitely has its benefits; like sharing the cost of instrument purchases or keeping up with the social networks.  However, the best is having someone to share the endless trip with! At the moment we have no disadvantages, and we hope it will stay that way!

DPC: What kind of creative process do you use when you set out to produce original Moonwalk material?
Moonwalk: Our creative process isn’t the same every time. We spend everyday in the studio working together, but we don’t really have a schedule. Everything depends on how much we are inspired, it could be in the middle of the day or at night. We don’t decide who does the beat or who plays the bass. It’s really casual. We use Ableton for working on the track and then Logic for the mixing and the mastering.

DPC: What’s your favorite venue that you’ve ever DJed at? What venue or festival would you like to play that you haven’t played yet?
Moonwalk: Our favorite Venue is at the Kazantip Festival, that was such an amazing party! We would love to get the chance to play at BPM Festival or Amnesia at Ibiza.

DPC: 2013 was a big year for Moonwalk, what do you guys have planned for 2014?
Moonwalk: We have many release planned with several different great labels. We are also organizing a tour and gigs with our Manager.

DPC: Any plans to come tour in the United States in the near future?
Moonwalk: At the moment we haven’t had the chance, but we hope to come very soon and to feel the American vibe!
